Electrochemically active NiFeOx is made on Nickel microporous layer (MPL) to yield a self-supported anode electrode that also functions as porous transport layer. This is also called as gas diffusion electrode (GDE) anode. In the industry, this may also be called or known as catalyst coated substrate (CCS) type of anode. It is meant to be used as-is, without any specific steps required for activation.

This is a variant of AEMWE NiFeOx GDE Anode (SKU:1001001) which uses compressed Ni foam as substrate.

Nickel microporous layer (MPL) has low surface roughness, providing better contact with membrane, and thus a better performance and expected better durability (Please see SKU:1003005 for detailed information about Ni MPL). Please see the data below that shows the exact better performance at both 0.2M and 1M KOH.

Technical specifications:

Thickness: ~280 µm

Electrochemically Active Materials: NiFeOx

Support: Nickel Microporous Layer (MPL)

Instructions:

Both sides of the electrode are active, and there is no directionality or direction dependency. A laser cutter is recommended for cutting. A guillotine trimmer or heavy-duty scissors may be used to cut down the electrodes to smaller sizes. It is important that the sharp points present at the edges of the electrode after cutting are facing away from the anion exchange membrane in order to prevent damage to the membrane during the cell assembly. Alkaline-resistant planar gasketing or O-rings should be used with this electrode during its operation with 1 Molar alkaline electrolytes.

Standard availability is 10x10cm and 20 x20cm size.
