Catalyst Coated Membrane (CCM) for PEM electrolysis - N50
This 3-layer Catalyst Coated Membrane (CCM) with a 50um PFSA membrane is the latest technology of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) that is being rigorously tested for large scale deployment, especially for applications where a very high hydrogen pressure isn't needed.
A thinner 50um membrane allows a significantly higher performance as compared with an already thin 80um membrane, such as a current density of 2.49 A/cm2 for N-50 at 1.8V vs 1.89 A/cm2 for N-80.
The membrane used in this CCM integrates a gas recombination catalyst layer that is composed of Pt based nanoparticles, will recombine the crossing over gas species (H2 and O2 molecules) and generate water molecules as a result of the recombination reaction. By reducing gas crossover, such a recombination layer allows the use of a thinner membrane without compromising the safety of the operation.
Specifications:
- Membrane type: reinforced PFSA membrane with recombination layer
- Membrane thickness: 50 micrometers
- Anode loading: 1mg/cm2 Iridium oxide
- Cathode loading: 0.4mg/cm2 Pt/C
